ABOUT THE ROLE

Village Public Health is seeking a motivated, community-minded Public Health Assistant for Summer 2026. This position is ideal for an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing studies in public health, health education, social work, psychology, nonprofit leadership, youth development, or related fields who is looking to gain hands-on experience in multiple areas of public health practice. This is not a sit-on-the-sidelines opportunity. The selected candidate will actively support youth programming, community engagement, health education initiatives, field-based learning experiences, and operational coordination throughout the summer. Travel includes Brookhaven, Mississippi (Mobilizing Youth Summit, June 11–13, 2026) and Oakland, California (Expanded Learning and Summer Safety Projects). The Public Health Assistant will support Village Public Health's Summer Institute, youth wellness initiatives, and community outreach efforts while gaining exposure to youth mental health programming, community health education, prevention-focused public health practice, program coordination, workforce development, expanded learning safety initiatives, public health communication, event planning and logistics, and community engagement and outreach.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with coordination and daily operations of the Village Public Health Summer Institute.
• Support youth engagement activities and workshops.
• Assist with implementation of evidence-based curricula and wellness activities.
• Help coordinate field trips, guest speakers, and service-learning activities.
• Support Summer Institute transportation and logistics coordination.
• Assist with social media content, outreach, and communication efforts.
• Support Oakland Unified School District Expanded Learning safety projects.
• Assist with preparation of training materials, participant resources, and presentations.
• Support data collection, reporting, and administrative organization.
• Assist with community outreach and public health education events.
• Help oversee and support programming connected to the Pulaski County Detention Center summer initiative.
• Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and training activities.
• Represent Village Public Health professionally in community settings.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current undergraduate or graduate student in public health or related field.
• Experience working with youth or community organizations preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Passionate about youth wellness and prevention-focused public health.
• Organized, dependable, and adaptable; works well in fast-paced, community-centered environments.
• Communicates professionally and respectfully; comfortable engaging with youth and community partners.
• Strong initiative, willingness to learn, and understanding of confidentiality and professionalism.
• Willing to travel and participate in community-based work.
• Valid driver's license preferred.
