Our Story
In 2018, Dr. Quinyatta Mumford founded Mumford and Associates as a patient-centered health education and promotion firm, providing individualized, evidence-based health education in collaboration with local physicians and community organizations across Arkansas.
During the height of COVID-19, Dr. Mumford recognized a critical and growing need: the youth mental health crisis was intensifying, and youth-serving organizations lacked the tools and training to respond. She pivoted her focus to directly support young people and the adults who serve them.
In 2021, the organization was rebranded to Village Public Health, shifting its target population to young people ages 13–24, with a secondary focus on the parents, educators, and mentors who love and support them. Today, VPH is the only organization in Arkansas offering certified Youth Mental Health First Aid training alongside community-based STI prevention, health coaching, and workforce development, all rooted in the belief that it takes a village.

About Dr. Quinyatta Mumford
DrPH, MPH, CHES®
Dr. Quinyatta Mumford is a public health leader, educator, and mother who has dedicated her life to building what she once needed: a village.
She began her career at the Tennessee Valley Authority as a Minicams Operator and later advanced to the laboratory as an Analyst. This early experience grounded her in environmental systems, data, and the importance of understanding how environments shape health outcomes.
Her path shifted when she stepped into public health, first through tuberculosis surveillance and communicable disease investigation at the Arkansas Department of Health, then into broader roles in disease intervention, data analysis, and community outreach. She earned her Master of Public Health from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and later her Doctor of Public Health from Walden University, where her doctoral research focused on HIV/STI knowledge among African American adolescents in Little Rock, a topic that continues to drive her work today.
In 2018, she founded Mumford and Associates, a health education consulting firm rooted in one-on-one health coaching and community-based prevention. When the COVID-19 pandemic exposed how deeply disconnected young people had become from mental health support and trusted adults, she pivoted. In 2021, she relaunched the organization as Village Public Health, focusing on the people she cares about most: young people ages 13–24 and the adults who support them.
Today, Dr. Mumford leads VPH as a prevention-first organization, delivering certified Youth Mental Health First Aid training, STI prevention education, health coaching, and workforce development across Arkansas. She is the only certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor in the state, and one of the only providers offering peer-led health programming designed for and by young people.
Her work is shaped by both expertise and lived experience. As a mother, she understands the urgency parents feel. As a public health professional, she knows that sustainable change requires more than information; it requires trust, cultural relevance, and consistent presence.
Dr. Mumford currently serves as MPH Program Director at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, Chief Public Health Officer at Oatmeal Health, and Chair-Elect of the Council of Affiliates at the American Public Health Association (APHA). She is a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses graduate and a graduate of the SBA's THRIVE Emerging Leaders Reimagined program.
Through VPH, she has built a platform that integrates education, lived experiences, and community connection, reaching young people in schools, community spaces, and through peer-led programs.
At the heart of everything she does is a simple belief: Young people do not need to be fixed. They need environments that allow them to recognize and use what already exists within them.
Whether she is leading a training, speaking to a room of professionals, or sitting in conversation with a young person, Dr. Mumford brings both expertise and lived experience to the table.
